In 1997 tour operator Renee Christiansen and librarian Karen Stevens combined talents to create what has become an annual tradition:
Halloween ghost tours of downtown Billings.
The three tours offered that first year sold out in a matter of hours and continue to sell out each year.
Ghost tours are now the most popular type of tour in the USA according to the travel industry and this year over twenty tours will be offered to satisfy the ever-growing fascination with ghosts. Each tour lasts about 1 1/2 hours and usually includes a stop at a genuinely haunted site along the way. The tours are updated each year as new hauntings are discovered. Reservations are strongly suggested.
These tours are best suited to adults and older children.Renee and Karen invite you to join us and our driver, Mr. Macabre, for a trip into the Twilight Zone--if you dare! We'll tell you tales of the dark side of Billings' past, of rumrunners and ghostly ladies of the night, of the murder of a policeman and Billings' one-and-only lynching.
Hang onto your seats while we tour the site of notorious China Alley, where no other tour dares to go. You'll learn about the cleverly-disguised opium dens of the 1920s, and about the mysterious and spooky tunnels under the downtown streets. Most of the tours end with refreshments at a haunted local establishment where--who knows?--some of the "ghosts" from Billings' dark past just might appear among the the tour group!
